2024 SPOTLIGHT: CHARLIE PARKER

Kansas City Jazz ALIVE is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2013 to serve as a catalyst group to develop and implement strategies that promote the Kansas City metropolitan area jazz community.

THE MISSION OF KC JAZZ ALIVE

HELP UNITE THE ENTIRE GREATER KANSAS CITY METROPOLITAN AREA JAZZ COMMUNITY

Help continually build the public AWARENESS of the Kansas City Jazz Scene; Serve the pulse of the entire Jazz Community as a LISTENING Body; Serve our Jazz Community as a benign and neutral platform for integrating IDEAS; Function as an informed VOICE platform to help articulate the state of the Jazz paradigm in KC; Provide EXPOSURE to the existing economic infrastructure and those relevant career resources in order to constantly improve the conditions of the entire Kansas City Jazz Scene …

THE VISION OF KC JAZZ ALIVE

To help make Kansas City the premier destination for Jazz music and its infrastructure; where career Jazz musicians find the scene to be a living-wage haven for families, live performances, teaching, and recording; where visitors and community residents can find information about the venues and entities featuring Jazz performances conveniently; and, where Jazz venues and presenters alike can regularly employ career Jazz musicians and also experience economic success.

WHAT KC JAZZ ALIVE DOES

The Kansas City Jazz ALIVE approach to supporting and elevating jazz is designed to align with the above five pillars of our mission (Awareness, Listening, Ideas, Voice, and Exposure) by being a catalyst organization supporting artists, enthusiasts, and venue owners; and thus, “raising the tides that lift all jazz boats” resulting in increased public engagement of the American Jazz aesthetic.

We Value
o Jazz as an important original American art form
o Patrons as supporters of jazz
o Jazz artists who create and perform the music
o Venue owners who present the music

We Promote
o Kansas City jazz artists and venues.
o The history and future of the jazz narrative
o The viability of the arts and specifically jazz as an economic engine

We Explore
o Opportunities for synergy among artists, enthusiasts, and venue owners
o Collaborations that result in increased awareness, opportunities, and economic impact
o Opportunities to support education, build infrastructure, and engage new audiences
o The ongoing tangible contributions of Kansas City Jazz in the context of Jazz History worldwide
